Overview

With world oil consumption exceeding 13 billion litres per day, transportation and processing of various grades of oil is a huge global activity. As expected with such high volumes, there is a high risk of oil spill which is extremely damaging to the environment.

As well as the potential environmental damage caused the polluter may have to pay substantial clean-up costs and possibly face prosecution.  With increased international awareness of the negative environmental effect of fuel and chemical spills, the containment of such spills is a necessity.

The potential for spills exists in many areas: aviation, general industry, construction, marine, fuel handling and road transport. There is an increasing need for immediate containment capacity.

FASTANKs are used throughout the world in environmental, oil and chemical spill response. In an emergency situation equipment must be simple and quick to assemble. Equipment which has remained for long periods of time in storage must be trusted to work first time, every time. FASTANKs are globally recognised as the most trusted premier tanks in chemical and oil spill response.

With increasing government awareness of environmental issues legislation has placed more responsibility on commercial enterprises to prevent and prepare for chemical and oil spills. The FASTANK bund provides a portable and robust solution to secondary containment and assists organisations in meeting their legal requirements.

A.

The need for secondary containment is as a direct consequence of the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) 2001. Known as the Oil storage regulations or OSR England, these regulations require anyone in England who stores more than 200 litres of oil, to provide more secure containment facilities for tanks, drums, Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) and mobile bowsers. This is to prevent oil escaping into the environment. Similar legislation extends to Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Failure to comply is a criminal offence and you could receive a significant fine.
